Club Positions

Below is a list of Committees and Volunteer Jobs. If you see a position you are interested in please contact a board member (see Contacts page) or attend a board meeting (see Home Page for meeting info). If you have an idea for a way to serve the club that isn’t listed below please let us know.

Committees

Banquet, Club Shows, and Club Competitions: Responsible for organizing, implementing and helping with these events (costumes, set-up, props, decorations, music, cleanup).

Coaches/Director:

Competition: Notifying members of upcoming competitions.

Conflict Resolution:

Executive: Shall assist the President in the discharge of his/her duties as required by him/her. This committee shall be comprised of current officers of the Board of Directors.

Finance/Budget: Shall be chaired by the Treasurer, and will be responsible for planning the yearly budget.

Fundraising: Responsible for researching and obtaining possible sources of funding.

Governance: The Board will appoint three to five eligible voting members of the SCLP who will prepare a list of candidates for the positions of officers and directors of the Club, and submit such list, in writing, to the Board at the regular February meeting. This Committee also reviews any changes/updates and advises the Board if we are in compliance with US Figure Skating bylaws, etc.

Handbook:

Ice Sessions: Shall be responsible for the regulation, control, and scheduling of skating events, and programs of the club, according to the rules prescribed by the Board of Directors, in cooperation with the Olympic Center.

Ice Show/Exhibitions/Special Events on Club Ice:

Membership: Shall suggest to the Board of Directors a dues structure, membership application structure, and membership requirements.

Parent Education:

Policy/Procedure/Bylaws/Club Business Manual:

Public Relations/Media: Will be responsible for highlighting club events, skater accomplishments, future events, etc. via newsletters, e-mail, website, TV/radio coverage, bulletin board, advertising, word of mouth, etc. Parent education and updating the SCLP Handbook are an important part of this committee.

Sanctions: Responsible for attaining proper sanctions for Olympic Arena events in a timely manner.

Scholarships: Responsible for determining qualifications, eligibility, scholarship amount, certificates, letters, and the awarding of the scholarships. The Treasurer needs to be on this committee.

Second Hand Shop: Is responsible for scheduling, training, and finding volunteers to operate the Second Hand Shop. They should be aware of peak times and skating events. Hours need to be posted and put on the website.

Special: The President shall appoint all other committees as deemed necessary.

Tests: Shall consist of a Test Chairperson who shall be responsible for the administration of the tests.

Trophies/Awards/Memorials:

Volunteers: Will be composed of Team Captains, who will be overseen by the committee chairperson. This committee will be responsible for initiating, informing, and tracking volunteers.

Website:

Volunteer Jobs

Announcers: During competitions, in the rink. Announces the skaters as they go on the ice. Typically occurs in shifts based on competition groups. Must be comfortable with speaking into public address system.

Awards: Before and during competitions. Organizes medals and presents them to skaters.

Basic/Bridge Blogger: Parent and child team to post a twice monthly account of the Basic and Bridge Programs. Positive, upbeat and fair posts only. Posts must be e-mailed to the President who will review them and forward them to the Website Updater.

Bulletin Board Decorator: Decorates the club’s bulletin board in the Olympic Center a minimum of twice a year (summer and winter). Checks it monthly and fix as needed to keep it looking nice. Costs will be reimbursed by the SCLP.

Competitors’ Packets: Before competitions. Gets contributions of items for competitors packets, such as coupons and small gifts from local businesses. Assembles materials for competitors packets.

Food/Refreshments: Before competitions and during test sessions. Prepares snacks and baked goods for judges. Food must be delivered to the Judges’ Room in the Olympic Center. Expenses for food will be reimbursed by the SCLP.

Historian:

Historical Organizer: Organize the club’s backlog of papers.

Hospitality: Before and during competitions and test sessions. Serves meals and refreshments to judges. Does not involve cooking.

Ice Monitors: During competitions, in the rink. Checks in competitors and lets them on and off the ice.

Photographer: Take still photos and video several times a year of club events. E-mail them to the Website Updater so they can be added to the website. Must have digital camera and computer with internet connection.

Registration: Before, during and after competitions. Checks in skaters and coaches. Hands out credentials and information packets. Checks music in and out. Knowledgeable person present to assist with answering technical questions. In the Olympic Center.

Registration Organizer: Before each competition find and label the boxes for competition music. Make labels to be placed on competitors CDs/cassettes. Organize and label folders for test results. Coordinate with Registration Team Leader.

Reporter: Write about club members and events. Articles will be e-mailed to the club President who will review them and forward them to the Website Updater. Must have computer with internet connection.

Runners: During competitions, in the Olympic Center. Taking scoring papers from judges in the rink to the accounting room elsewhere in the Olympic Center. Posting results. Requires lots of walking and stairs. Suitable job for young club members age 12 and up.

Second Hand Shop: Throughout the year. Staffs the SCLP shop in the Olympic Center. Handles sales and checking in new items.

Test Session Administration: Five times throughout the year, in the Olympic Center during test sessions. Records scores on recording sheets. Organizes skaters and lets them on and off the ice.

Website Updater: Will update the website twice monthly. Must have a computer with internet connection. President must approve all updates and changes before they are made.
